What is the format for teams?

The Adventure24 will accept solos and 4 person teams: coed, all female, and all male. The elite catagory for the race is the 4 person coed catagory. ONLY elite teams will be eligible for cash prizes. All competitors will be eligible for sponsor prizes.

Which teams can win the cash prizes?

Cash prizes are awarded to coed teams of 4 ONLY. To be eligible for the cash prizes you must race coed for two legs and each racer must race at least one leg. This means that you must race on the course with a COED team for at least two legs of the race. You are NOT eligible for cash prizes if you 1) Have a same sex team that races on the course, but the support crew is of the opposite sex. 2) If you race as a coed team on the race course, but for only one leg. You must race coed for at least two legs.

What gear do I have to carry during the race?

You have to carry all individual gear and team gear during the entire race. This gear is labeled "Entire Race" on the gear list. For the other gear, it is just needed during the specified leg. Biking gear is only carried on the biking leg(s), etc... For the individual gear you need three pieces of each gear. For instance, between the team you need three compasses, three head lamps, etc. For the team gear you only need one piece of the gear. For example, one first aid kit, one water purification system, etc. Be prepared to show your mandatory gear at any point during the race. All gear should be in your possession during each leg including but not limited to bikes and boats unless specified in your passport instructions.

What is the percentage breakdown of race legs?

That information will be kept secret until the race begins. There will be about 90 miles of total distance however.

I want to register online but I don't know my teammates. Can I still register?

Yes. For the second, third, and fourth team member sections in the registration form put the same information as you did for yourself EXCEPT, change the first name to member2, member3, and member4 on the respective page. Your team does not have to be set to register.

Do I have to bring my own boat?

Yes. All teams (and solos) are required to paddle a single boat (no composite boats). Materials like Plastic, Aluminum, and Royalex are allowed. Materials like fiberglass and carbon fiber are not allowed. No three person hard-bodied kayaks are allowed either. The boat suggestion for teams is a canoe and a hard plastic kayak for solos. Those are ONLY suggestions however. If in doubt, ask questions.

What will the disciplines be like?

The paddling will be on flat and moving water (class I and II). Trekking will be on paved roads, Forest Service roads, and trails. Biking will be on paved roads, FS roads, and single track. You will navigate throughout the entire race. We are suggesting that all racers know how to right an overturned boat while in the water.

Where can I rent a canoe near the race start?

Tennessee Canoe Adventures is the ONLY place close to the race area that rents canoes. The cost is $45 for the weekend. Call 423-775-5930 and ask for Lanny (the owner). The boats are Old Town's 169 and are located about a 45 minute drive from the Ocoee Region in Dayton, TN. If enough people rent their boat from him he will deliver and pick them up. You MUST be able to transport the boat on your support crew vehicle during the race!

0759431E      3804750N

How do I waterproof the radio supplied by race management?

You can choose any way you wish. Usually two ziplock bags and duct tape work well.

The gear list says I have to have a handle bar mounted bike light, will a helmet mounted light work instead?

No. The reason for this is safety. We want you to be able to see what is in front of you, as well as the ability of others to see you. If you are looking for a trail with just a helmet mounted light, you might miss that large hole right in front of your tire. By having a handle bar mounted light, your peripheral vision will see that hole. You can wear a helmet mounted light, but this MUST be in addition to your handle bar mounted lights.
