What is the format for teams?

The Ultra O-gaine will accept solo, 2 person, and 3 person teams: coed, all female, and all male.

Is there an age limit for participants?

Yes, you must be 18 or older on race day. In some instances we allow childern under 18 if they are participating with their parent. This is approved on a case by case basis however.

I want to register online but I don't know my teammates. Can I still register?

Yes. For the second and third (if applicable) team member sections in the registration form put the same information as you did for yourself EXCEPT, change the first name to member2 and member3 on the respective page. Your team does not have to be set to register.

Where can I stay before or after the race?

Downtown Chattanooga is approximately 30 minutes from the event HQ. Seach online for a hotel that fits your needs.

The race venue does allow primitive camping in designated areas for anyone wishing to save a few bucks.

I want to camp before/during/after the event. What are the details?

You are welcome to camp Friday and/or Saturday night in either of the two designated camping areas. There is no fee to camp. Camping is first come, first serve. Be prepared to haul your trash out of the state forest as there are no dumpsters or trash cans for public use.

The following are designated camping areas:

Campground next to the Ranger/Hunter Check Station at the entrance to the state forest. This camp is closest to the Start/Finish area and has ~ 15 camp sites. Camp sites are primitive with pit toilets and campfire rings only. A well-water tap is located at the Ranger Station.

Davis Pond Campground is a few miles south of the Start/Finish area. It has only 3-5 primitive camp sites but plenty of room for multiple tents for teams that wish to share. Campsites are primitive with pit toilets and campfire rings. Some of these sites have a picnic table.

The start/finish area is NOT a designated camping area. However, your team may set up a pop-up tent, table and/or chairs during the event. Campfires or other activities at the start/finish area that might appear as "camping" to the rangers will not be permitted.

HALF ULTRA TEAMS: In fairness to other teams, if your team arrives on Friday and are registered for the Half-Ultra on Saturday, we ask that you stay off the course (essentially everywhere except the start/finish area and your campsite) once the Ultra check-in starts at 6pm on Friday. We also ask that you not view the event maps handed out to the Ultra teams. In any case, you are more than welcome to hang out with us at the start/finish area for as long as you like.

What kind of maps will teams receive?

You will be given a 1:24,000 scale USGS map that has been custom made just for this event.

Will there be water available at the start/finish area?

No. There is no running water or facilities at the start/finish. Participants must bring their own water for before, during, and after the event. There are outhouses throughtout the course area.

Will teams have the opportunity to return to the hash house during the event?

Yes. Teams are permitted to return to the hash house as often as they wish.

What will the checkpoints be like?

Checkpoints will mostly be orienteering markers with the possibility of a few manned checkpoints.

What clothes should I wear?

Please wear what you feel comfortable racing in. We do suggest you have some type of long pants and long sleeve shirt. There are less briars and thick brush than last year! Whatever you choose to race in, make sure it will protect your body from the outdoor elements.
